Any photographic illustrations in the original are either absent or reduced in number. Book club editions are sold to members at a good discount compared with the original issue price. Some book club editions actually are first editions or at least first hardcovers. If you check the LW Currey's "Science Fiction and Fantasy Authors: A Bibliography of First Printings of Their Fiction and Selected Nonfiction - Revised Edition", you find listings of first editions with the comment "Issued by the Science Fiction Book Club".
